Bird Film Applicator® are marked with the wet film thickness they are ground to lay. It has been found over a range of viscosities that an applicator will lay a wet film just half of the clearance. An applicator markered .003 indicates that the instrument has a clearance of .006 and it will lay a wet film approximately .003 thick.
